http://miss-s-b.dreamwidth.org/1017721.html So, having slept on it, my theory for what will happen on New Year's Day: ( speculation based on spoilers ). We shall see if that is more or less cracky than whatever Rusty has pulled out of his arse.
But what do YOU think?
( spoilery poll is spoilery )
Do feel free to add your own cracky speculations in the comments, and we shall see who is nearest the awful truth.

http://miss-s-b.dreamwidth.org/1017386.html Newtonmas is over for another year, then. Spent most of it traveling home from Devon. Devon was cool, even if my new laptop charger died. After a bath, we watched James May fail to capture a world record, then Doctor Who, then new Poirot - which had Mark Gatiss AND Tim Curry in, and sent me into a frothing frenzy. Then I did the Who Daily reaction post, in which the general consensus seems to be "Cribbins was awesome, but srsly, WTF???"
Did you lot have an exciting day?
Tomorrow I have work. And then the day after tis my birthday, hence the new title text on my blog.
Oh yeah, that's what I meant to ask: any more takers for dead_pool?

| Doctor Who The End of Time: a Study in Ambivalence |
[Dec. 26th, 2009|12:20 am] |

http://miss-s-b.dreamwidth.org/1017119.html I loved it and I hated it in almost equal measure. I loved ( SPOILER! ) even as I hated the ( SPOILER! ). I loved ( SPOILER! ), and ( SPOILER! ); I hated ( SPOILER! ). I ACHED with adoration for the mighty ( SPOILER! ) almost as much as I cringed with embarrassment for poor ( SPOILER! ).
It wasn't so much an episode, as a fanboy wishlist, strung together with nary a scant attention to plot, and I hated it, even as I loved seeing my fannish dreams come true. ( SPOILER! ) Hurrah! But what the blue buggery fuck are they doing, and where did they come from? The scene in the ( SPOILER! )? BRILLIANT. Beautifully written, beautifully acted. But how did it fit into the story? It didn't. Because there wasn't one.
I just... I know I should wait for part 2 before pronouncing judgment, but I'm SO TIRED of Russell T Davies and his endless wankery. I just want his era to be over now. Only a week to wait.

Crimbo was good. Joy was had. Food was yum. Pudding was to die for.
Who was marvellous, if a bit reconny and confusing? I will have to watch again. Kids distracted me the first time. Plus the fecking V+ box cut out 10 minutes in and rebooted, and my recording is fucked. Grr.
Cribbins. Need Moar Cribbins.
Cant wait to see next week's ep. ZOMG. |

( Disjointed Thoughts )
pickwick gives it WTF/10 points.
In David Tennant taking over the telly news, he was quite good on QI last night but mostly got drowned out by Lee Mack being a twat. Bah. But Hamlet is on tomorrow, and I've seen a bit of it, and it's MADE OF WIN and you should all watch it, even if you hate Doctor Who and David Tennant and Shakespeare. |

[Dec. 24th, 2009|09:05 am] |
'Tis the season for retrospectives, fa la la la la la la la la! End of the year, end of the decade. I don't really have the memory for ten years of books and movies, and I've only been into comedy for a fraction of that time, so I'll go with music.
Firstly, my album of the year for 2009. Fairly obviously, this accolade goes to Artwork by The Used. I love them - love love love love them - and this is my favourite album of theirs. Pop melodies played dark and heavy and disturbing. Cracking stuff. Artwork + bonus tracks.
And now let's poke last.fm to see what else I listened to this year.
Top fifteen most listened to artists of 2009 1 Fall Out Boy 2 The Used 3 My Chemical Romance 4 Dragonette 5 There For Tomorrow 6 Pendulum 7 The Tragically Hip 8 Cobra Starship 9 Marianas Trench 10 Rihanna 11 Alkaline Trio 12 A Kiss Could Be Deadly 13 Lostprophets 14 Breathe Carolina 15 Ladyhawke
I USED TO HAVE SOME SORT OF METAL CRED, YOU KNOW.
My most listened to tracks of 2009 are dominated by Fall Out Boy and The Used, so here's my most listened to tracks from the above top fifteen artists 1 Fall Out Boy – Tiffany Blews 2 The Used – Paralyzed 3 My Chemical Romance – The Sharpest Lives 4 Dragonette – Marvellous 5 There For Tomorrow – Sore Winner 6 Pendulum – Propane Nightmares 7 The Tragically Hip – Coffee Girl 8 Cobra Starship – The Church Of Hot Addiction 9 Marianas Trench – All To Myself 10 Rihanna – Push Up On Me 11 Alkaline Trio – We've Had Enough 12 A Kiss Could Be Deadly – The Exit 13 Lostprophets – Everyday Combat 14 Breathe Carolina – I.D.G.A.F. 15 Ladyhawke – My Delirium
And now, not necessarily in exact order, and open to change in case I've forgotten something really important...
Top fifteen albums of the noughties, limited to one appearance per band otherwise unfair biases will show 1 Fall Out Boy – Folie à Deux 2 The Tragically Hip – World Container 3 The Used – Artwork 4 Iron Maiden – Brave New World 5 My Chemical Romance – The Black Parade 6 Imogen Heap – Speak for Yourself 7 Depeche Mode – Playing the Angel 8 Pendulum – In Silico 9 Lady GaGa – The Fame 10 Muse – Black Holes and Revelations 11 Rob Dougan – Furious Angels 12 Metric – Live It Out 13 Simon Bookish – Everything/Everything 14 Cradle of Filth – Midian 15 Brother Firetribe – Heart Full of Fire
And because we should look forward more than we look back, lest we bump into something and fall over in a painful slapstick way...
Bands releasing new studio albums in 2010 that I'm like so totally stoked about 1 Iron Maiden 2 My Chemical Romance 3 Gamma Ray 4 Blind Guardian 5 Masterplan 6 Pendulum 7 Rhapsody 8 Alkaline Trio 9 Patrick Stump, because although there's no official word yet, he just can't help but make music all the damn time so I'm expecting some solo work from him during FOB's hiatus 10 Probably loads of emo bands with silly haircuts 11 Probably loads of scantily clad pop groups 12 THREE CHORD REVOLUTIONARIES MUAHAHAHAHAH OH THIS IS WISHFUL THINKING
OH HEY, THERE'S MY METAL CRED BACK! Except not really, because in no universe does power metal have any kind of credibility. BUT I LOVE IT SO. And I'm giving a shit about Masterplan again because they've got Jorn Lande back on vocals. The album they did with That Other Guy sucked, and Jorn is one of the most ubiquitous voices in hard rock and power metal for a reason. (The reason: he is damn good.)
That was fun. Unlike the forthcoming retrospective of the last ten years of my life, which is mostly going to consist of overuse of the words university, unemployed, poor, alone, depressed. Oh boo frakkin' hoo. Go get a cup of tea and a biscuit, self. |
